This past Saturday the Davis Sunrise and Woodland Sunrise Rotary Clubs joined together to support the Knights Landing Family Resource Center. The Rotary Clubs constructed a patio that will be used to assist Empower Yolo in the distribution of food from the Yolo Food Bank. The patio will be particularly effective as the distribution area previously became waterlogged during inclement weather. Approximately fifteen Rotarians joined in the two-day project, building about two hundred and fifty square feet of patio, using pavers. Members of the community provided a lunch to recognize the effort.

The Family Resource Center is managed by Empower Yolo and provides families with access to a range of programs and services.  These include mother’s support groups, child development programs, parent support, benefit enrollment, financial coaching, health education, case management, and counseling. The Center also serves as a point for the distribution of food from the Yolo Food Bank and services by UCD One Health Center. The new patio will especially impact the food distribution since it takes place outdoors, in front of the Center, in an area that was dusty at best and muddy after rainfalls.

Davis Sunrise Rotary Club has a long history of working with the Knights Landing Community. Previous work included painting the Resource Center and bringing groups of children to Swim America in Davis for swimming lessons.

Rotary is an international service organization with over 1.2 million members. The Davis Sunrise and Woodland Sunrise Clubs have supported numerous local organizations. Our clubs offer opportunities for members to come up with ideas to help our communities. Collaborating within our club and others, we connect like-minded Rotarians to transform ideas into reality. And we make friends as we help others.
