Yolo County, CA – Empower Yolo is proud to announce that it has been selected as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 4 by Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry. This recognition comes as part of a statewide celebration hosted by the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), honoring exceptional organizations across California.
Empower Yolo is one of more than one hundred nonprofits that will be honored by their state senators and assemblymembers for their outstanding contributions to the communities they serve.
“I’m so proud to say that Empower Yolo is the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 4,” said Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters). “Their commitment to creating healthier, stronger communities, shows the true spirit of public service. We’re so fortunate to have Yolo Empower advocate for those that need help at some of the most difficult times of their lives. They’ve made a lasting impact across our region, and I’m honored to celebrate them for their incredible work.”
Since its establishment in 1977, Empower Yolo has dedicated itself to serving individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. The agency provides essential services, including a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, emergency shelter, legal assistance, confidential counseling, and support groups.
Ten years ago, Empower Yolo expanded its impact by opening resource centers across the county. These centers have become vital hubs of hope and support—improving health, education, and economic stability for countless individuals and families. Through access to food, clothing, housing assistance, benefits enrollment, healthcare, youth programs, financial empowerment services, outreach, education, and more, Empower Yolo continues to uplift and strengthen the community.
“It is an honor to be recognized as the Nonprofit of the Year,” said Lynnette Irlmeier, Executive Director of Empower Yolo. “This acknowledgment reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, board of directors, and volunteers for the community we serve. We are committed to empowering individuals and families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.”
Through extensive community outreach and educational programs, Empower Yolo raises awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking and available resources to foster resilience within the community. The organization is dedicated to supporting survivors and vulnerable families, creating pathways for healing and empowerment for those impacted by crisis situations.
Empower Yolo is honored to be recognized as Nonprofit of the Year, a testament to the vital work the agency is doing in our community. This achievement reflects not only its dedication but also the support of our community partners, supporters, and donors.
Together, we will continue to advance our mission of promoting safe, healthy, and resilient communities throughout Yolo County. With the community’s ongoing support, we are committed to empowering individuals and families to thrive and foster a brighter, more empowered future for all. The program culminates with a celebratory luncheon at the Capitol on California Nonprofits Day, which this year is May 21.
