Party with a Purpose
At Empower Yolo, we have spent 49 years standing alongside Yolo County’s most vulnerable children—protecting them from abuse and helping them heal when harm has occurred. When domestic violence occurs, children are impacted too. Last year, half of the 211 shelter residents were children seeking safety with their families. When first responders encounter a family in crisis, they know to call Empower Yolo. We operate Yolo County’s only 24/7 crisis line, ensuring help is always just a phone call away.
Through our Sexual Assault Response Team, 133 children received specialized support and advocacy during criminal justice investigations, including emotional support, accompaniment to forensic exams and interviews, and connection to critical resources. And we assisted in obtaining 498 restraining orders that directly protected families and children.
Empower Yolo staff work year-round to transform our shelter into a place of warmth, stability, and joy. Children celebrate birthdays with cake, decorations, and presents—sometimes for the first time. We host first-day-of-school breakfasts, arrange haircuts and new outfits, and cheer children on as they reach milestones big and small.
During the summer, we offer daily camp-style activities where children explore their feelings and express themselves through art and play, along with field trips throughout the community that introduce first-time adventures like swimming, ice skating, and visiting museums.
Inside our shelter, children are free to play, create, build friendships, and rest without carrying the heavy responsibilities they may have shouldered at home. Through our Children’s Program, we intentionally create joyful, affirming experiences that support, uplift, and honor every child’s right to feel safe, celebrated, and full of possibility.
When you support Party with a Purpose, you have the opportunity to help make these moments possible. Your generosity ensures that every child who walks through our doors is not only protected—but celebrated, encouraged, and reminded that their future is bright. You are helping ensure that when a child needs safety, healing, or the chance to believe in a brighter future, Empower Yolo is there—ready to uplift, protect, and stand beside them every step of the way.
